We have a busy and fun Religious Exploration program (usually referred to as “RE”) for children. On Sundays, two adults lead a group downstairs to the classroom area. You are welcome to go with your child to help them settle in, or let them go downstairs with the group. Activities change week to week, but there is usually a craft or movement activity, tied to the theme of the worship, or the season. Toys, sensory fidgets, music, and books are also incorporated. We open each week by lighting our chalice – we say “We are Unitarian Universalists – we are the church of the loving heart, the church of the helping hands, and the church of the open mind.” with hand motions! We’ll teach you how.
Families can also listen to the service from our nursery room downstairs if that works best for your family.
Children are also very welcome to remain upstairs if they prefer, either in a seat or utilizing our Children’s Corner. Youth Group for middle and high schoolers is currently on pause, but could resume quickly if enough interest builds. If you have anyone interested in joining, please ask Cayla! We will offer an Our Whole Lives program for K-2 students starting in 2026, please register your interest with Cayla. We also have a Parent Support Group, restarting this fall.
We run a summer camp called Chalice Camp each August (full for the 2025 season) and three-day camps over February and April school vacations.
Our RE Coordinator Cayla Miller (she/her) is a mom of three young children, a lifelong educator, former librarian, artist, and is in the UUA Credentialing program, with plans to complete her portfolio and interview in April 2027. Cayla was the recipient of the Marshman Fields Scholarship for 2024. She is also a student at the Chaplaincy Institute of Maine with plans to be ordained in June 2026. She’d love to talk to you about all she is learning! Cayla has a passion for multigenerational education, process art, the power of story, and supporting our youth to be the justice-minded, kind-hearted, wonderful individuals they are. She grew up in the UU Church of Yarmouth, Maine and credits them for starting her on the path to this career and this church!
