Using the Database                                  Return to the Content Database

 

To edit the database, you need to have an appropriate username and password. When the database opens, you see the available tables. Click on the table you need to work with.

Note: tables that add graphics will also remove the graphic from the website files when that record is deleted.

Note: Description fields will support formatting. If you copy-and-paste from another source, you need to paste, then highlight all the text, then click on the “Remove Formatting” button, third from right at the top of that box. Then you can add  your own formatting if you wish. Sometimes that is insufficient and you have to save your copy as text only, then copy that into the database table.

 

ADULT PROGRAMS  (Adult Programs page)

Fill in all the information. Check whether this is a monthly program or a weekly/semi-weekly program. It will then appear in the correct list online. They will appear online in alphabetical order by program name.

Graphics: If you wish, upload a graphic. The graphic will show at a maximum of 400px wide. Best is 400px wide at 96 dpi.

Deletions: Delete any program no longer provided.

 

CHURCH NEWS   (Church News page & Homepage widget)

This is designed to provide updates on happenings the congregation should know. All records show on the Church News page. The Homepage will always show one record at random.

Graphics: If you wish, upload a graphic. The graphic will show at a maximum of 400px wide. Best is 400px wide at 96 dpi.

Link: You can add a link to an online page if you wish. Add the actual Link in that box. What you type as the Label will be word(s) people click on to go to that linked resource.

Deletions: Delete any item no longer relevant.

 

CHURCH STAFF  (Church Staff page)

The List Order field determines the order they appear on the web page. Entering an email address here will put it into the Leadership List online, and onto the Contact Page.

Graphics: If possible, upload a graphic. The graphic will show at a maximum of 200px wide. Best is 200-400px wide at 96 dpi.

 

COMMITTEES & GROUP CONTACTS   (Committees & Group Contacts page)

Easy – just fill out all appropriate information. One the website, this will show in alphabetical order by name of committee. Email addresses will be linked on the web page.

 

COMMUNITY ACTION   (Community Action page)

This is designed to provide suggestions of what members can do to make a difference.

Graphics: If you wish, upload a graphic. The graphic will show at a maximum of 400px wide. Best is 400px wide at 96 dpi.

Link: You can add a link to an online page if you wish. Add the actual Link in that box. What you type as the Label will be word(s) people click on to go to that linked resource.

Deletions: Delete any item no longer relevant.

 

COMMUNITY EVENTS    (Community Events page and Homepage widget)

Enter the End Date, or the actual date of the event. The listing will disappear from the website page when the date is passed. You still need to remove the record from the database sometime after the date has passed.

Graphics: Graphics will show at a maximum of 700 pixels wide. (They resize down for smaller screens). Graphics can appear alone, or you can add whatever copy you need below them. You can also have just the copy and no graphics. Best is 700px wide at 96 dpi.

Link: You can add a link to an online page if you wish. Add the actual Link in that box. What you type as the Label will be word(s) people click on to go to that linked resource.

Deletions: Delete any notice no longer in effect.

 

ELECTED OFFICERS  (Elected Positions page)

This is the trickiest list. The List Order determines where a record appears on the website page. Each committee will have its own number. The chair or president gets the whole number and is also where the committee’s name appears. All members will have decimal points. Where members have no office. they can have a common number and will appear on the list by alphabetical order of their last name.

The easy part is that most of the time all you have to do is leave the committee list alone and just add and delete members.

 

PAGETOP NOTICE   (Homepage only)

This is for a notice you want prominent and which will appear on the homepage every time it is opened. It is the top content item and it goes all the way across the page and has a light blue background. The graphic will appear on right on a desktop or ipad, on the top on a phone. If you have not special notice in this area, the entire box disappears and the remainder of the page moves up. This is intended for one item, but will accept a maximum of two.

Deletions: Just delete any event after it has happened.

 

PUBLIC EVENTS   (Public Events page & Homepage widget)

Enter the appropriate information. Events will appear on the Events page in order of earliest one coming up. The very next one will appear on the homepage. On the web page, these will appear with the more imminent events first, and they will disappear from the page when that date is passed. You still need to delete the event from the database when convenient.

Graphics: Graphics will show at maximum of 400 pixels wide. Best is 400px wide at 96 dpi.

Deletions: Just delete any event after it has happened.

 

RE NEWS   (Pre-K through 13 Religions Education page and Homepage widget)

Enter the appropriate information. News items will appear on the RE News page in order of most recent on top. All items will appear on the homepage widget, randomly-selected every time the page loads.

Graphics: Add graphics up to 600 pixels wide. Keep to 96 dpi for maximum page speed.

Deletions: Simply delete any item no longer relevant.

 

RESOURCE DOWNLOADS   (Resource Downloads page)

You can add PDF, Word Docs, and PowerPoints. They will appear on the web page list in alphabetical order by name. When you type in the type of document, that will end up being the Download Link on the web page Resource Downloads. Upload the file and it will be ready on the page.

Deletions: Simply delete any item no longer offered.

 

SERMONS   (Upcoming Services page, Hear Recent Sermons page, Search Past Sermons page & Homepage widget)

Don’t Delete any of these – they are all of our sermon records.

This table manages the full list of past sermons and future services in the system. To use it, add information available on all future services. This data will appear on the page Upcoming Services. That page will show all records from today and in the future.

This data also appears on the page Hear Recent Sermons. The record will show only if there is an mp3 filename in the record. The page will show only past records with an mp3 associated with it.

The most recent audio sermon will appear on the homepage.

 

URGENT MESSAGE (Top of Homepage, Top of Right Sidebar on all pages with that sidebar)

Normally, there will be no record left in the database table. Use this table for an Urgent Message on the website, then remove it when done.

This will put an urgent message at the top-left of the home page. It will appear in large print in an orange field. Use this to announce a service snow closing or any other message that is urgent and should be obvious when the home page is opened. It will also appear at the top of the right sidebar on pages that use a sidebar.

Put any header and description into this table in the database and it will appear in a box above the photo on the top of the home page. Delete the urgent message and the page will immediately go back to normal with that box not showing on the website..
